State Sales Tax Exemption Forms:
Are you SALES TAX EXEMPT? Should you be SALES TAX EXEMPT?
If the lumber or millwork you buy from O'Shea Lumber is used in a product you RE-SELL, then you qualify to be tax exempt on that purchase from us. It doesn't matter if your customer is a homeowner having new wood floors installed, or a government agency or church buying new furniture, YOU are tax exempt with us and we won't charge you sales tax, as long as you are RE-SELLING the product made with our lumber and we have your Tax Exempt certificate.
If you use the lumber to make something for your own business, such as a chair or table that you keep in your office, that lumber is not tax-exempt.
If you should be Sales Tax Exempt, you can save your business 5-7%, on average, by not paying sales tax to us, whether or not you collect sales tax from your customer. All we need is to have a State Sales Tax Exemption form on file for you, like the ones above. Download the form for your state, include your State Sales tax ID #, sign the form, and mail or fax it into us (717-235-3108) or email it (accounting@oshea.com), and we will make sure your account is changed to Tax-Exempt. Of course, if you have any questions about the status of your account, call your Sales Rep, or the Accounting Dept, at 800-638-0296.
Not sure how your account is setup with us? Just look on a recent invoice from us....if you see "sales tax" on it, your account is NOT set up as Exempt.
